Restorative Dentistry

ABOUT THE SERVICE

What is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative Dentistry is the process of repairing or replacing damaged tooth structure. Tooth structure may be damaged by factors such as tooth decay, grinding, clenching, erosion and external trauma. At Mobile Dental Care Australia – we offer many comfortable procedures to treat infected and damaged teeth, including fillings, pulpotomies, metal crowns and, as a last resort, fast, pain-free, stress-free extractions.

What is Tooth Decay?

Tooth Decay is the most common chronic disease in Australia. It is caused by regularly consuming sugary food and drinks and not brushing teeth well. Tooth decay occurs when bacteria found in plaque produce acids that attack the tooth’s surface (enamel). Sugar is this bacteria’s favourite food, so if you regularly consume lots of sugar, these bacteria will multiply. The acid attack that the bacteria causes first appears as a white spot on the tooth’s surface. At this early stage of tooth decay, the tooth can repair itself with the help of fluoride. If left untreated, the white spot turns into a hole (cavity) that progresses deeper into the tooth and can cause infection, pain, tooth loss and abscess formation. At this late stage of tooth decay, the tooth cannot repair itself, and a filling, root canal/pulpotomy, metal crown or extraction is required. Symptoms of tooth decay can include toothache, sensitivity, a swollen face, bad breath, teeth chipping away easily, a bad taste in the mouth, swollen gums and white, brown, or black stains on the teeth. Factors other than tooth decay – such as grinding, clenching, erosion and external trauma may also damage teeth and cause pain and sensitivity.

Fillings

Restorations, known as fillings, are the most common and affordable treatment for cavities, chipped teeth and cracked teeth. At Mobile Dental Care Australia tooth coloured materials are used and colour-matched to your tooth with the use of a shade guide to restore the natural function, integrity and aesthetics of missing tooth structure. We use an automatic numbing delivery system to make the entire experience pain and stress-free (say goodbye to scary, traditional numbing needles!). We then clean and remove any decayed or infected parts of the tooth and place in the material to rebuild the tooth structure quickly and easily.

Stainless Steel Crowns

Stainless steel crowns are tooth-shaped metal crowns that are fitted over the remaining tooth structure of infected teeth to protect them and prevent decay from progressing further. Stainless steel crowns are the most popular technique for treating severely decayed or fractured baby teeth as they are simple to place, easy to care for, strong, long-lasting and highly successful. Stainless steel crowns are perfect for children as they can be placed in just a few minutes without any numbing agents and, most often, without drilling the tooth at all. Stainless steel crowns are a non-invasive, quick, comfortable and pain-free alternative to complex procedures such as extractions or pulpotomies. The high success rate and durability of stainless steel crowns enable children to avoid frequent dental visits for problem teeth. Stainless steel crowns will stay in the mouth until the baby tooth it is placed on naturally falls out.

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is our last resort. We will always do everything possible to save a tooth. In the rare case that a tooth requires an extraction Mobile Dental Care Australia has all the tools necessary to ensure the procedure is quick, comfortable and pain-free. We use an advanced automatic numbing delivery system that is highly effective and looks nothing like scary traditional numbing needles. The spongy bone, in which the tooth’s roots are encased, is then widened, and the tooth is rocked back and forward until it separates from the socket and is easily removed. No pulling or yanking is required!
